Martin shot one-over par during the opening round on Thursday in the first event on the Asian Tour in nearly 20 months.
Martin started his round at the Blue Canyon Country Club in Phuket on the back-nine and made the turn at one-over par after a double bogey on the par-four 18th.
On the front nine he had a mixed card with five pars, two bogeys and two birdies to finish the day at one-over par, eight shots off round one leader Catlin.
Martin is straight back to work in round two and tees up at 11.05AM AEDT on Friday alongside Pawin Ingkhapradit and Viraj Madappa.
Martin is back competing in Asia after claiming his first professional victory earlier this year at TPS Sydney where he equalled a world record, fired a career-low round with four eagles to win the tournament.
