This week we caught up with Quarry Hill member Willy Wanefalea to talk about all things golf.
Handicap: 15
Home club: Quarry Hill Golf Club
How long have you been playing: I came to Australia from the Solomon Islands in 1993 and in about 1997 my brother-in-law asked if I wanted to play golf and have been on the course ever since.
Clubs: Wilson driver, with classic irons and a trusty putter.
Favourite ball: Titleist Pro V1
Favourite professional: Adam Scott
Favourite hole: The second hole at Quarry Hill because that's where I had my only hole-in-one
Favourite shot on the course: I love driving and hitting long balls
Best score: 75 off the stick at Neangar Park Golf Club
Best golf memory: One night my family sent me out to get fish and chips but there was a twilight competition on at the club, so I went down to play in my thongs and I won.
Current goal: I am trying to get my handicap back down to single figures. I once got to nine at Quarry Hill and would love to get back there.
Why do you love golf: I've played many sports before such as soccer and rugby, but in golf there's no contact and it's all on the individual player so I enjoy that aspect of it. Also, with golf it's all in your mind, you imagine the shot in your brain before you do it.
