Our district has some of regional Victoria's best courses with thousands of members who all year round dedicate themselves to being their very best on the course.
This week we are starting the series with one of Neangar Park's members.
Name: John Petri.
Age: 55.
Handicap: Currently 15, was 13 about 2 months ago.
Home club: Neangar Park Golf Club.
How long have you been playing? Since I was 15, but I didn't have a handicap until my late 20s.
Ball: Srixon Q Star Tour pure white balls.
Clubs: TaylorMade M1 driver, three wood and two hybrid. Srixon I-701 irons, Wilson Staff Infinite The Bean putter, Callaway gap wedge and sand wedge.
Best score (and where): 82 at Neangar Park.
Favourite hole: Any at Royal Melbourne.
Favourite professional: Phil Mickelson.
Favourite shot on the course: Hitting driver or two hybrid, but it's a love hate relationship.
Best golf memory: Getting to play at Kingston Heath and the following year at Royal Melbourne just before the Presidents Cup. As a group we received tuition from Marcus Fraser before playing a round of Ambrose.
My best memory of this round was a birdie on the sixth hole. A hole with a big dogleg to the right. I carried the trees with the driver. Hit a wedge to three metres and nailed the downhill putt.
Current golfing goal: To reach a single figure handicap, even if it's for one week.
