When Gerri passed away from leukaemia at the end of 2020, six months after being diagnosed, the family decided to turn their pain into something positive.
Gerri's sons Leigh and Mark are lead a team of people on a 210km walk from Ballarat to Bendigo in March.
The walk will begin on March 21 in Mount Buninyong and end on March 25 in Bendigo.
Mark said Leigh had pushed for the fundraiser and hoped more people would jump on board to walk the last leg of the trek from Mount Alexander to Bendigo.
"Leigh really pushed it," Mark said. "We wanted to turn something awful and emotional for us into something positive. Hopefully we can raise awareness and and ensure other families don't have to go though what we did.
"One thing I always say about Mum is she was a very community-orientated person. She had four kids that all played sport and she wasn't a drop-off parent. If there was committee to be on or a stopwatch to be held, she was there.

"She was heavily involved in Kangaroo Flat groups. People that know of Gerri, know she always a positive person and that was the big thing for that rubbed off on us."
So far the fundraiser has collected $35,000 and has readjusted its target to $50,000.
"We thought it we could get $5000 or $10,000 that would be amazing," Mark said.
People can still sign up for the Gerri's Journey team with the $100 donation securing a shirt and a ticket to the auction to be held on May 21.
On March 25, participants can choose their starting point:
- Harcourt-Sutton Grange Rd (35km) - 8am

- Kangaroo Gully Road (9km) - 1:15pm
- Walter Road (3.5km) - 2:15pm
