In November of 2020, the Stevens family lost their beloved mother, wife and nanny, Gerri, after a battle with Acute Myeloid Leukaemia.
To honour her memory, her family as well as friends, colleagues and community members will be banding together to tackle the 'Goldfields Track', a 210 kilometers walk from Ballarat to Bendigo on on March 21 to 25.
Fundraiser organiser Leigh Stevens said they have raised over $35,000, and with over $20,000 in donated goods and services to auction at their Gala Auction, which will be held in May.
"My Mum, Gerri, lost a short battle with Leukaemia in 2020, so the family have decided to try and raise $50,000 for the foundation," he said.
In preparation for the larger walk, the team have been holding group training walks at the end of each month, with one held at Lake Weeroona this Sunday.
Mr Stevens said the day would also be an information day and said it would be the last day that people could sign up for The Last Leg.
He said it was a great opportunity for anyone who wants to join the walk, but cannot commit to multiple days.
Those of walking the whole Goldfields Track in March, will be walking most of the day, starting at 9am, and finishing around 3pm.
Those walking shorter distances in March will join in at different times of the day to suit their fitness level. We will stop around noon for a free BBQ lunch.
There is currently 12 people walking the full 210km, nine walking multiple days, and a further 55 on The Last Leg.
