Bendigo Highway Patrol Leading Senior Constable Brendan Keegan said the crash happened when a car driven by a learner driver didn't fully stop at a stop sign on Nelson Road.
"As a ute towing a trailer coming from Eaglehawk and heading to Bendigo approached Nelson Street intersection, we had learner driver under instructions coming on Nelson Street from Eaglehawk Road and heading towards the railway line.
"The learner driver has failed to stop at the intersection and come through to collide with the ute and trailer - forcing the trailer to turn over. The learner driver has then driven off the road and struck the house on the corner."
Leading Senior Constable Keegan said speed was not a factor in the crash but that the small amount of speed resulting from the learner driver not fully stopping made the crash more serious.
No one was home when the car hit the house and City of Greater Bendigo structural engineers attended the scene before SES were allowed to removed the car from the house.
"The car has just missed gas meter," Leading Senior Constable Brendan Keegan said.
"This intersection has been a black spot intersection for over 20 years. There have always been accidents here - not just little accidents, there have been some fairly big accidents on this intersection as well."
Leading Senior Constable Brendan Keegan said even with less traffic on the roads due to COVID-19 restriction, drivers still needed to take care.
"We request drivers at the moment to pay attention to signs," he said. "Appreciate that we are in a COVID situation. There's not as much traffic sometimes but we're finding people are being a bit lax on road rules.
"The COVID rules change day to day but one thing doesn't change is the road rules - we have to obey those."
