The Australian Electoral Commission has published its proposed redistribution for Victoria.
The addition of a new seat, with a recommended name of Hawke, taking in the Ballan, Bacchus Marsh and Melton areas has a series of consequences for nearby electorates.
For Bendigo, held by Labor MP Lisa Chesters, it means that Woodend will shift into the neighbouring electorate of McEwen, which is also an ALP stronghold.

But Kyneton and surrounds stay in Bendigo, meaning that the Macedon Ranges Shire remains split across two electorates.
Otherwise Bendigo's boundary remains unchanged under the proposals.
"Ongoing population growth in parts of Victoria has led the Redistribution Committee to propose a number of substantial changes to some of the state's electoral division boundaries," the commission said.
The new electorate, it is recommended, would be named after the former prime minister Bob Hawke.
Maryborough will remain in the seat of Mallee, sharing an MP with Mildura and Horsham residents.
Ballarat, which also shares a border with Bendigo, will take in more rural areas to the south that are currently part of the Wannon electorate.
Objections to the AEC's proposals close on April 30.
The process is separate to that currently underway for state electoral boundaries in Victoria. The National Party has proposed an overhaul in central Victoria to establish a single seat covering urban areas of Bendigo.
