Spring Gully Primary School students walked, cycled and scooted to school on Friday morning as part of Ride2School Day.

The school has almost 400 students and joins the more than 350,000 students across Australia taking part in the day.
Spring Gully PS principal Francis Trezise said the day is about encouraging students to be active travellers.

"It's about walking when they wouldn't normally," he said. " Bikes will dominate today but there will be a lot of scooters too.
"Given our location and access to safe bike paths around Spring Gully, we have a large number of kids who ride their bikes regularly.
"We promote active travel routinely in our newsletter and focus Wednesdays as Walk or Wheel Wednesday, which is a day where we really want people to actively travel to school."
As well as cycling to school, students we able to use pedal-powered slushie makers to make their own fruit smoothie and take part in other giveaways or activities.
School parent and Bike Bendigo president Nicola Dunnicliff-Wells said she has assisted in the schools active traveller program for almost five years.
"I'm quite passionate about kids being active and riding or walking to school," she said. "I helped institute a weekly count a couple of years ago and with Walk or Wheel Wednesday, we get really good numbers.
"My youngest is grade 4 and since COVID has been able to ride by himself to school. But I have really enjoyed riding with the kids. It's a time that you get with them when not distracted by jobs or screens and can engage with them.
"We're very lucky at Spring Gully because we have the creek path that kids can travel on. That is also a good opportunity to teach kids about road safety. We practice crossing the road and bike path etiquette about three of four times a week."
