This year's Melbourne Cup was made with gold from the Fosterville mine - the first time gold from the Bendigo area has been used to create the trophy.
On Tuesday, the cup was seen at Fortuna Villa, the grand mansion that the 'Quartz King', mining magnate George Lansell, once called home.

"This year's cup is particularly significant as we recognise the importance of ensuring the legacy continues in the face of disruption and challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic," Kirkland Lake Gold chief executive officer Tony Makuch said.
The cup's visit to Bendigo came one week before the race that stops the nation, and one day ahead of the Bendigo Cup.
