Students who used the same services were told to stay home on Thursday.

It came as three schools in Bendigo and Heathcote were closed on Wednesday after a number of people tested positive to COVID-19.

A student from Bendigo's Catherine McAuley College and a staff member at St Joseph's Primary School in Quarry Hill were two of the coronavirus cases.

Catherine McAuley College on Thursday also confirmed a number of families at the school returned positive tests.

The two schools will be closed until Wednesday, August 5 to ensure a deep clean can be undertaken.

Holy Rosary Heathcote will also close as a precautionary measure due to a connection to one of the positive cases.

Girton Grammar School on Thursday confirmed it would remain open despite a student's family member also testing positive to the virus.

A DET spokesperson said the department was aware a reported COVID-19 case travelled on school bus services in Bendigo last week.

"On the advice of DHHS, students who travelled on these services have been asked to stay home today, Thursday, July 30, while further investigations are undertaken on whether any additional actions are necessary," the spokesperson said.

The department would not clarify what bus services were affected or what days the person travelled.

School buses are cleaned and sanitised every day, and all tactile surfaces are wiped down with sanitised wipes or solution after each run.

All school bus operators have been observing additional vehicle cleaning and sanitisation processes in response to the coronavirus pandemic.
