COMMUNITY EVENTS
COMMUNITY MULCH DAY
Gannawarra Shire Council will be holding another Free Community Mulch Day.
Community members are invited to bring along their trailers and have them loaded for FREE.
No bookings are necessary however an indemnity form will be required to be signed prior to loading.

A BODY OF WORK
Castlemaine-based crime writer, Annie Hauxwell, will launch A Body of Work after an in-conversation with author Janice Simpson.
Simpson’s contemporary crime novel set in Melbourne and Ballarat, tells the story of socialite and author Deborah Dangerfield’s murder at a Melbourne arts festival, and the subsequent police investigation.

PLANET MINDERS
Dozens of people will gather together for the Planet Minders Picnic, an event being run by Bendigo District Australian Conservation Foundation.
The day will have a child-friendly, environmental focus with many different activities, including music, face painting, puppetry and guest speakers.
The picnic comes a day after the Big School Walk-out for Climate Action, an activity led by Castlemaine students, who will be speaking at the event event.

KOALA COUNT
Hear from a koala expert about why koalas are so special and how you can protect them on your property.
Then join Council’s rangers for the annual koala count at Hanging Rock Reserve.

WALL-E
The Resource Recovery & Education Unit are hosting a family movie night.
The evening will also feature activities prior to the movie along with a coffee van (don’t forget your keep cup) and limited food.
This event is a “Target Zero Waste event”, so please bring all things reuseable or recyclable.

YOGA IN THE PARK
Relax your mind, body and soul with yoga in a local park.
This free yoga is for all ages and abilities.

CHILDREN’S LEARNING AND BEHAVIOUR
Heather Pollock, a Bendigo based author of a new book, believes stress and trauma are behind the learning and behavioural difficulties of children.
Heather Pollock has worked with children who have ADD, ADHD, Autism, and other similar issues and has led her to discover that most children with these diagnoses have one thing in common: they have experienced trauma.

FOOD TRUCK FESTIVAL
Feeling peckish? You won’t want to miss out on this three-day food-lovers’ event.
The Bendigo Food Truck Festival is back for its third and biggest event ever.
The festival features more trucks, music, entertainment, better facilities and a different layout.
Trucks included in the event are Billy van Creamy, Bites On Wheels, C'est Chick, Flame Tree Pizza and many, many more.

FUNDRAISERS
Car and Bike Show & Shine
Head along to support students from the Gisborne Dance Academy in achieving their dreams of performing in LA in April 2019.
This event features live music and shows, a jumping castle, petting zoo, food and drink, face painting and more.
Funds raised from the car/bike show and shine will go to assisting the Gisborne Dance Academy.

PERFORMANCES
ONCE AND FOR ALL
At a local cemetery, a coming collaboration between sculptor Eliza-Jane Gilchrist and writer and actor Mark Penzak will explore the stories behind the gravestones.
The event will start with a tour of the cemetery, telling the stories behind notable graves and monuments.
The event trials of a form of theatre where visuals tells as much of the story as the words.
It’s not a classic play; rather, collaborators are trying to bring their audience into the atmosphere of the cemetery.

GALLERY GIGGLES
Parents and children are invited to head along to the gallery for Gallery Giggles.

THE TWO OF US
Local artist Mark Dober and daughter Emily have a joint exhibition of drawings called The Two of Us.
Emily Dober is an emerging artist who has autism and her drawings are inspired by pop culture, reflecting fashion.
Her father Mark Dober, an independent artist, work shows drawings made from life.
Mark is delighted to be sharing the family’s work together for the first time.

SCULPTURE EXHIBITION AND TRAIL
In recent weeks, some awe-inspiring outdoor sculptures have been installed on the lawns of the Hanging Rock Winery in preparation for the Art in the Vines Sculpture Exhibition and Trail.
One of Australia’s most well-known sculptors, Geoffrey Bartlett, has signed on to participate and has created his piece “Embrace #2” especially for the Art in the Vines.
Other sculptors who have pieces on display have their work on show at the likes of The Met Museum in New York, The National Gallery of Australia and other international spaces.

FLORAL TRANSIENCE
Sharon Greenaway is a photographic artist exploring the goldfield flowers.
The native flowers in Bendigo can be small and have a short flowering time, therefore not many people may see them.
Greenaway aims to highlight the flowers’ beauty in order to help with their conservation.
As well as the photographic art pieces on the wall, there will also be some of Greenaway’s wearable art.

GROWING UP IN ECHUCA – WHAT KIDS DID FOR FUN
The exhibition “Growing Up in Echuca – What Kids Did for Fun” runs until the end of February.
The focus of the exhibition is connecting today’s kids to the yesteryear of their parents and grandparents and engaging families with their history.

GOTHIC BEAUTY
Curated by Tansy Curtin and Jessica Bridgfoot (and as a Bendigo Art Gallery exclusive), this exhibition takes a look into early Victorian rituals of mourning, as early as the 1800s.
The artists featured in the exhibition range from Jane Burton, Bill Henson and Janet Beckhouse just to name a few.
This exhibition draws on works from the gallery's historic collections, as well as loaned pieces and works from contemporary artists.
