The campaign was launched in late November with the aim of raising $30,000 to go towards the running costs of the not-for- profit community organisation.
Star Cinema board chairwoman Fiona McMahon believes the cinema is half way toward its target at the halfway point in the Bums on Seats campaign.
She said Star Cinema had sold $10,000 worth of yearly memberships and $6000 worth of film passes and vouchers before Christmas.
“We are really excited, the response been tremendous. We're definitely feeling the love,” she said.
“I believe up to New Year’s Eve we had 1000 tickets sold to the cinema, which means we are almost filling the cinema each screening.
“This is our last push, we have three weeks of campaigning left and if people continue to support us this way we will (reach our target).”
Ms McMahon said if the campaign fell short, the board and operators of Star Cinema would have to think about closing the doors.
“We are determined not to close. The way the campaign is going, we are either going to reach our target or go close enough to continue,” she said.
“Everyone is excited and we are confident of reaching our target.”
