The four-year-old mare produced her first win at career start number six, doing it in style by running her nine rivals off their legs to win by 4.2-lengths over the heavily fancied Breadcrumbs (Danny O'Brien) with Mr Satellite, for Seymour trainer Dwayne Reid, in third.
It was the third training win this season for Chapman with her small team.
Her previous most recent win came courtesy of Snappy Secret on Bendigo Cup day last October.
Chapman, who trains on-course at Kyneton, but lives less than 10km away from Hanging Rock, felt the combination of the tight circuit and short trip to the track were always going to be Snappy Li'l Thing's liking on Wednesday.
"She started off her prep showing quite a bit of ability, but has never had much luck," she said.
"She seemed to be stargazing, looking around a lot and then last start we went to Camperdown with her and it was a really warm day and she'd run her race before we got there. And the track was a bit ordinary.
"It was a bad run, but today (Wednesday) it was just at home at Hanging Rock; from that nice little tight circle, the plan was just to get out and go forward and that's what she did.
"She is a very speedy little filly, but the first couple of starts they were just catching her, but Hanging Rock's a bit different, if you can get out and get around that turn, you are home."
Chapman, who part-owns the horse with husband Steve and a small group of family and friends, is hoping the four-year-old can now kick-on and quickly notch her second win.
"We'll wait and see how she pulls up - we haven't looked at the calendar or anything like that," she said.
"We planned for today, we don't have any future goals at this stage, we'll just wait for the next run."
Snappy Li'l Thing was ridden to victory by Michael Poy.
Like many of the Chapmans' past and present horses, the mare carries the 'Snappy' tag, a reference to their former city performer Snappy Tom, who won five of 58 races and was placed 24 times for earnings of $332,520 between 2004 and 2010.
The now 20-year-old gelding ran in nine either Group or Listed races and is still living on their property.
"All our hopes are on Snappy Secret, he won a really nice race on Bendigo Cup day," she said.
"He's had two starts for a win and a third and is looking promising.
"We are hoping for good things to come from him. He'll have his first jumpout back from a spell on the 7th (of February).
"So all going well, we will cross our fingers for him."
The $30,000 Hanging Rock Cup (1800m) was won by Strategic Phil for the trainer-jockey combination of David Brideoake and Will Gordon.
