In total 23 BESC swimmers broke records on the day.

BESC head coach John Jordan said the record number was higher than usual, but that the club had gone into the race meet with full intention to take their competitors by storm.

"The entire club was excited and stoked with the results," Jordan said.

"The success is a reward for their effort - especially being able to do it at home."

After the extended period of no racing throughout 2021, BESC had targeted the event months prior as an opportunity to break records.

"Because we missed out on so much of the winter short course season, we deliberately set this race meet as the chance for us to go fast and really aim to set strong times," Jordan said.

"The competition was mixed as we had a few swimmers from Melbourne and other regional areas but primarily it was within our own club.

"We have a healthy level of competition within our own space which is good."

Among the new records set was the open boys 200m freestyle relay with BESC's Hunter Boswell, Charlie Whitsed, Bryce Schubert and Cameron Jordan posting a 1:50.42.

In addition, Isabella Symons, Anna Mitchell, Lara Judd and Layla Day set a 2:03.00 time in the open girls 200m freestyle relay.

Other individual records were broken by Boswell, Jordan, Symons, Day, Mitchell, Willow Wardwell and James Davenport.

Jordan said the results had provided the club's athletes with a boost of confidence ahead of the summer season.

"It has given them all the bit of encouragement to put in even more effort as we head into another hard phase of training," he said.

The club aims to send a group of its junior swimmers to Canberra next month for a national competition.

Other events include Victorian Sprint Championships in January, followed by Country Championships at Mildura.
