A MOTORCYCLIST who reached speeds of more than 140 km/h allegedly tried to evade Bendigo Police over the weekend.

The offender was caught during Victoria Police's statewide road operation over the weekend.

Bendigo Highway Patrol's Geoff Annand said the male was allegedly detected travelling at 142km/h in an 60km/h zone in Epsom on Saturday.
Sergeant Annand said a 39-year-old Epsom man was riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle before he was intercepted by police on Station Street, Epsom at about 5pm.
"The man attempted to evade police... the man was subsequently found at his home later on in the day," he said.
Sergeant Annand said the man will be charged on summons with a number of offences.
The man's motorcycle was impounded for 30 days at a cost of $1,200.
Over the weekend, two other vehicles were also impounded, after their drivers were found to have a disqualified licence.
The first installment of Operation Compass kicked off on Friday and will continue to run until 11:59pm on Tuesday, November 2.
The operation will then continue from 12:01am Friday, November 5 until 11:59pm on Sunday, November 7.
Over its first three days, Sergeant Annand said the highway patrol unit had completed 227 preliminary breath tests, six preliminary oral fluid tests and issued 55 penalty notices.
