Sydney has pipped Bendigo to the top spot of the vaccine uptake after the NSW capital city ramped up their jab rollout as the state recorded their worst day of coronavirus case numbers on Tuesday.
Bendigo came in first place in all of Victoria as 54.8 per cent of the population over 15 had received their first dose of a vaccine and 28.9 per cent are fully vaccinated.
Warrnambool and the south-west was a close second with 54.5 per cent of their population over 15 received at least one jab and Geelong was third with 53.6 per cent.
North Sydney and Hornsby statistical area topped the national list with 57.6 per cent of their population over 15 received at least one jab and 32 per cent fully vaccinated.
The Geographical Vaccination Rates data is released weekly and last week, Bendigo was leading the nation with the highest percentage of first doses of the COVID-19 vaccine administered.
The data released by the federal government showed that in Bendigo last week, 52.6 per cent of people aged over 15 had received their first dose and more than 25 per cent of people were fully vaccinated.
Bendigo Health chair Bob Cameron last week praised the willingness of the central Victorian community to roll-up their sleeves and get vaccinated.
"It requires a team effort and Bendigo Health thanks the community," he said.
"We've got to be vaccinated to avoid lockdowns but on top of that, now it's a matter of civic pride; we want to stay number one in the nation."
