Community members have been warned to be vigilant with their dogs during the baiting season, which will begin in August.
Authorities warned foxes were a threat to many ground-dwelling native animals, as well as farm animals such as lambs, poultry and goats.
Other news:
Forest Fire Management Victoria Murray Goldfields acting district manager Tim Wishart said foxes hindered the reintroduction and recovery of native species.
Mr Wishart warned foxes could also increase weed spread by carrying seeds in their scats and fur.
He said as foxes were a declared pest, there was a legal responsibility to control them on public and private land.
Mr Wishart said FFMVic would use shelf-stable 1080 poison baits, buried in bait stations under the Victorian directions for use and manufacturer's guidelines.
He said these would be monitored regularly for four weeks, then removed, or replaced if taken during the baiting period.
Mr Wishart urged community members to be vigilant with their dogs in state forests, saying FFMVic wanted to keep the risk to non-target species low.
He said dogs should be appropriately restrained, so they did not accidentally eat a bait.
Baiting will take place in the Wellsford State Forest from August 2 to 20, and Kimbolton and Lyell State Forests from September 13 to October 29.
Near Mayborough baiting will run at Mount Hooghly, Bung Bong, and Wareek state forests, from August 2 to September 24.
Signs have been placed at the entrances to specific forests so visitors are aware of the program, while nearby landholders have been contacted directly.
