Campaspe Shire general manager for development Paul McKenzie said the Rochester Community Play Space will transform the town's existing Rotary Park and is the product of years of collaboration between the community and council.
"Campaspe Shire Council has worked closely with the committee to create the project design for the purposes of the tender," he said.
After plans were given the stamp of approval from councillors in June 2020, the play space committee, Rochester Rotary Club and a number of other groups worked with council to get plans ready for approval to go to tender earlier this month.
"From here, the design will go through concept, preliminary and detailed design phases, with input along the way from various stakeholders such as Vic Roads, Victrack and safety and accessibility audits," Mr McKenzie said.
"The detailed design phase included indicative costing and has enabled the contract to include a range of provisional items.
"This means that if tender prices are lower than budgeted, items can be added or materials upgraded within the contract framework."
The new park is set to include three major play areas, as well as a picnic lawn and regular park amenities, while also using the existing toilet block as part of the new look.
The area has been designed to be heavy on the use of natural materials, and will incorporate a number of indigenous elements.
The project has also led to a number of smaller projects including the maintenance of the town's beloved historical windmill.
Mr McKenzie said once a successful contractor is selected, the start time for the construction of the project will be negotiated.
The tender is open until July 5.
