Artist Kerry Nicholson claimed the winning prize, with a mural inspired by the theme "It changed our world" titled Imagination.
Mural Festival committee member Judy Anderson said this year had been busy, with school groups and passers by, including those on the Silo Art Trail.
Other news:
Eight finalists have spent the week painting a mural, a larger version of a pre-prepared miniature.
The finished products are for sale, apart from the winning entry which will be put on proud display in Rochester.
Ms Anderson said the finished murals were fantastic.
"I'd hate to be a judge, because it's just so difficult. Everyone has a different style and concept, they're very colourful," she said.
Ms Anderson said the event had brought visitors to cafes and hotels in Rochester during the week.
On top of the artists painting their work, the town put on a pop up art exhibition in its heritage courthouse and a woodworking display.
Artists Murray Ross and Jill Conway received the People's Choice Award with a mural titled We did it Together.
Nathan Sims' mural Keeping My Distance was placed second in the competition.
