A simulated hospital, pharmacy and other healthcare settings will be built as part of the $5 million upgrade.
La Trobe University vice chancellor John Dewar said these new Health and Biomedical Sciences Teaching and Research Hub would greatly benefit a range of disciplines for years to come.
"La Trobe University, Bendigo is one of the largest and best rural health schools in the country this funding will allow us to improve our regional healthcare work force even further," he said.
"We will be able to increase the capacity of our health school, particularly in its educational programs."
Member for Bendigo West Maree Edwards announced the state government would contribute $2.5 million to the project.
"Not only will this facility provide great training and job opportunities for local students, but it also firmly puts Bendigo on the map as a destination for world-class health education and research," she said.
The new hub will house state-of-the-art teaching spaces, an anatomy laboratory, two research labs and collaboration spaces for the university community and industry.
The fourth floor of the university's engineering building will be transformed into the new hub and will create 36 local jobs during its construction.
La Trobe third year nursing student Claire Mangan said she was excited to see the new facilities come together.
"It's really an exciting idea. It's the practical side of the course that really benefits us so to be able to go out into the labs really helps," she said.
"The more you practice those clinical skills, the better nurse you become so I really appreciate any opportunity to do that and this new hub will really help."
The facility is expected to be open in December 2022.
