Health Minister Martin Foley said the new case recorded overnight lives in the city of Melbourne, but investigations into the source of infection are ongoing.
"Our team will continue their investigations today, as to the acquisition source of that case, which came in very late last night."
"The team spoke to the case last night, and is conducting further interviews today."
Mr Foley said the case had done all the right things.
"From our initial interviews, the individual recognised they had symptoms, got tested, and had a test result, all within the same day, that is, yesterday," he said.
"Our public health teams are also continuing their other investigations into the cases in Reservoir and have completed lengthy interviews with the Victorian couple who have tested positive in Queensland."
Mr Foley thanked the large number of people who got tested on Friday
"I want to take this opportunity to thank the 15,110 people who braved some pretty rough weather yesterday to get tested," he said.
"We are now clearly in the throes of winter, and you might just think that the slightest sniffle or sore throat is just something that happens in Melbourne and Victoria in winter.
"But as we have learned over the course of this past 18 months of pandemic, we need to respond to the symptoms of coronavirus, however mild, as soon as we detect them."
"So please do the right thing, get tested quickly, and give our public health team the chance and the information they need to stay ahead of the spread of this virus."
Earlier
Victoria has recorded one new locally acquired case overnight with another three recorded in hotel quarantine.
The Health Department said the new locally acquired case was notified to the department late Friday with investigations underway into the acquisition source.
Coronavirus news
Not including today's cases, Victoria has seen 49 new coronavirus cases since June 1.
In the past 24 hours, over 20,000 vaccinations have been done bringing the Victorian COVID-19 vaccination total to 772,135.
On Friday, acting premier James Merlino warned that Victorians shouldn't become complacent after the state recorded no new COVID-19 cases.
He said while a day of zero cases was a terrific result, the concern about recent outbreaks were nowhere near over.
Chief health officer Brett Sutton agreed and said many people were still in isolation after being in contact with people who had tested positive for the virus.
"The week ahead probably won't be all zeros," Professor Sutton said.
"We're kind of at the halfway point in many respects."
