Police are investigating the cause of a fire that destroyed a house in California Gully on Tuesday morning.

Bendigo police senior constable Desiree Nitsche said the two front rooms of the Gill Avenue home were destroyed in the fire.
"Investigators are still investigating and we are appealing for witnesses or people who may have dash cam footage," she said.
"The house is all but destroyed. The front rooms are fully destroyed while the rest of the house is smoke damaged."

Senior constable Nitsche said the house was technically unoccupied.
"There were belongings in it with the resident in process of moving out," she said.
A CFA spokesperson confirmed fire crews were called to the scene at 1.38pm.
"Four CFA units from Golden Square and Eaglehawk attended with crews from Fire Rescue Victoria also on scene," the spokesperson said.
"Crews deemed the scene under control at 1.58am and left at 3.05pm."
