HAVING finished runner-up the previous two seasons, Strathfieldsaye broke through on Saturday to win the Bendigo District Cricket Association's under-16A premiership.
In a cracking grand final at Club Court, the Jets clung on by two runs against Bendigo United to deny the Redbacks back-to-back flags.
Batting first, the Jets compiled 8-109 from their 25 overs led by Aston Wilson (37 n.o.) and Bayden Hunter (25).
The Jets' total proved to be just enough as the Redbacks fell agonisingly short when all out on the last ball for 107.
The Redbacks had been tracking well in their chase at 3-75, before the Jets hit back, taking 7-32 to win the premiership.
Max Cahoon (21) top-scored for the Redbacks, while Wilson (3-13), Jedd O'Keefe (2-19) and Hunter (2-26) were all multiple wicket-takers for the Jets.
* It was an even closer game in the under-16B grand final as Golden Square defeated Strathfieldsaye by one run at Beischer Park.
Sent into bat, Golden Square was all out for 66 in the 22nd over, with only Wasik Ajmain (22) and Jimmy Wilkinson (18) reaching double figures.
Nathan Di Camillo (3-8), William Harvey (2-8) and James Sharam (2-12) combined for seven wickets for the Jets.
With only 66 on the board to defend, the pressure was on the Square bowlers to deliver and they did as they held the Jets to 8-65 to scrape over the line by the barest of margins.
Tom Conlan (2-8), Ajmain (2-10) and captain William Bowles (2-11) all took two wickets apiece for the Jets.
* Strathdale-Maristians Orange beat Eaglehawk by five wickets in the under-14B grand final at Ewing Park.
Invited to bat first, the Hawks posted 7-127 headed by opener Harvey White's 31 n.o.
Xavier Grant (3-26) was the leading wicket-taker for the Suns, who needed just 16.4 overs in their chase to race to 5-130, with Ethan McMahon (40 n.o.) and Grant (35 n.o.) combining for 75 runs off just 54 balls.
* White Hills held off Sandhurst by six runs to win the under-14B flag at California Gully.
The Demons successfully defended their 9-91 as the Dragons were restricted to 8-85 in reply.
White Hills' Oliver McMurray had a day out with the ball, producing the stunning figures of 4-2 from three overs.
* Strathdale-Maristians' under-12A team capped a memorable season for the Suns on Sunday, winning the powerhouse club's sixth flag of the weekend - four senior and two junior.
Strathdale-Maristians Blue (7-76) won a thriller against Bendigo United (8-75) by one run in the third of the junior grand finals decided by two runs or less.
Suns' opening bower Will Rainey claimed the game's best bowling figures of 3-4 from three overs.
