STRATHDALE-MARISTIANS has again reigned supreme in the Bendigo District Cricket Association, capturing its seventh first XI flag in the past 11 seasons against Kangaroo Flat on Saturday.
The Suns' comfortable six-wicket grand final win completed an undefeated season - the second time the club has achieved the feat during its dynasty of BDCA domination.
The Suns were also unbeaten in their premiership season of 2012-13.
Chasing Kangaroo Flat's 8-153 at the QEO, the Suns answered with 4-154.
The Taylor-Walsh Medal for the most influential player in the grand final was awarded to Strathdale-Maristians' Cameron Taylor for the first time.
The star all-rounder, who won his sixth flag, took 3-18 off nine overs with his leg-spin, held a sharp catch at slip to dismiss Jake Klemm (3) and then batted through the Suns' run-chase, finishing 60 n.o. off 81 balls and hitting the winning runs.
Also playing a pivotal role in the chase for the Suns was Jack Neylon, who unleashed a 30-ball knock of 43 with four sixes and three fours that helped ensure Strathdale would cruise to victory with 52 balls to spare.
For Kangaroo Flat, which had been striving to win its first premiership since 2005, Brent Hamblin closed out a stellar season with a solid all-round performance, combining an unbeaten 38 with 2-19 off 7.2 overs.
Captain Chris Barber was the Roos' top-scorer with 41 after winning the toss and batting first.
It was a memorable weekend for Strathdale-Maristians, which not only won the first XI premiership, but also took out the second XI, fourth XI, under-18, under-14A and under-12A flags.
