DETECTIVES are expected to investigate a suspicious fire that erupted in bushland part-way up One Tree Hill.
Firefighters were called to the fire today after 5.20pm after thick black smoke was seen rising at the scene.
They found a small hatchback alight and flames spreading into bushland off of Edwards Road.
More news:
They requested a helicopter water bomber to help douse the flames, which by then had spread about 50 to 100 metres through the scrub.
Fire Rescue Victoria has issued an advice warning for the area, saying there was no threat to the public but that people should remain aware of the conditions.
The fire is now fully extinguished but fire crews and police remain on the scene.
People are being urged to avoid the area if they can to give emergency crews space to safely mop up and black out.
Bendigo police sergeant Joel Smith said detectives were expected on scene soon.
Officers are yet to identify the car or how it came to rest where it did.
Tomorrow (Sunday) has been deemed a day of total fire ban.
5.45pm
Firefighters have marked the incident under control.
