With an estimated development cost of $28.375 million, excluding GST, the project will see the development of an indoor cricket training facility with six cricket pitches, two basketball courts, changerooms, amenities and office space.
The development of four sporting ovals and two outdoor netball courts, car parking and landscaping also form part of the Lower Sports Oval Precinct.
Last March, Bendigo council agreed to co-fund the project, allocating $7 million to the first stage of the two-stage development.
The project received a $500,000 grant from the Sport and Recreation Victoria Community Cricket Program, with Mercy Education and Catherine McAuley College to contribute the balance of the construction and maintenance costs.
Council's contribution is toward building joint use facilities in stage one and half of the ongoing operational costs of those areas.
Joint use facilities include two junior ovals, two synthetic cricket pitches and two indoor courts suitable for basketball, netball, volleyball and badminton.
Eight change rooms with adjoining toilet and shower amenities will support the joint use spaces.
The new building will also house a social space, first aid room, kiosk and umpire changerooms.
The Northern Regional Rivers Cricket Hub was first announced in October 2018.
An additional car parking area is proposed as part of the development, with 151 spaces planned.
Most of the planned works form stage one of the development, with one junior size oval, one senior full-size oval and the kiosk and social space part of stage two.
