GUN midfielder Kalan Huntly had his first taste of senior finals last year and he's hoping for more of it next season with his new club White Hills.
The Heathcote District league's recruiting frenzy of top talent continues with the signing by the Demons of Huntly.
The majority of the 23-year-old's senior career has been spent at Castlemaine, where he is a best and fairest winner and also represented the BFNL in inter-league three times between 2016 and 2018.
Huntly was on Essendon's VFL list in 2018 and played four games for the Bombers before spending last season with Koondrook-Barham in the Central Murray, finishing fourth in the league's best and fairest.
"I got the chance to play senior finals for the first time at Koondrook-Barham last year and really enjoyed the experience... I got a taste for it and really want to be able to do the same at White Hills and have some success," Huntly said on Wednesday.
"I'm good mates with Jack Fallon (White Hills assistant coach) and he gave me a bell a couple of weeks ago and told me about what the club is doing, so I'm really looking forward to trying something new."
While Huntly is looking forward to playing alongside Fallon, who joined the Demons from Eaglehawk ahead of this year's COVID-cancelled season, the prospect of being part of a midfield that also features coach Sam Kerridge was also enticing.
"I'm super keen to play with Sam. He's obviously a player who has AFL experience and will be able to teach me a lot," Huntly said.
Such is Huntly's talent, his former Castlemaine coach Derrick Filo labelled him one of the best six players in the BFNL after he had just won the Magpies' best and fairest in a canter in 2017.
"I genuinely think Kal is in the best six players in the competition. He trains hard, looks after himself, he's quick, good overhead and a nice kick," Filo said.
Huntly is the second key 2021 signing announcement the Demons have made, with the club also to be bolstered by the return of another midfield addition in best and fairest winner Hayden Wright, who last played with White Hills in 2017.
