The Dja Dja Wurrung will complete the burn sometime before Tuesday, weather permitting.
People in the Dingee, Kamarooka North and Tennyson areas may still be able to see smoke as late as Thursday, according to Forest Fire Management Victoria.
More news:
Thunder Swamp is 5.3km from Dingee.
The Dja Dja Wurrung will burn an area of 17.2 hectares using methods honed by ancestors over thousands of years.
The practice was reintroduced in 2017 and the number of burns have been growing in number since.
Dja Dja Wurrung's burns help cut down on weeds and encourage natives to grow because small patches of landscape over wide areas are burnt.
The fires do not consume large tracts of bushland in the same way as other types of planned burns.
