The initiative, which is run by the Goldfields Library Corporation and the City of Greater Bendigo, kicked off last month with a discussion with former AFLW footballer Moana Hope.

Coordinator Lee Power said the next talk would focus on tips and strategies for carers to cope with anxiety and uncertainty.

"They're really good at thinking of others but it's important they are able to look after themselves as well," she said.

"The Anna Centre have generously supported us and are providing us with one of their staff to talk about taking care of yourself, particularly in this tricky time."

Ms Power, who is also a librarian at the Bendigo Library, said the whole Bendigo Cares project was about acknowledging those carers in the community.

"We know that more than 10 per cent of people in Bendigo care for a loved one," she said. "We just wanted to reach out to them and offer some support and recognition for the work they do.

"The other thing is that while this series is developed with carers in mind, anyone else is welcome to join in."

Ms Power said more than 150 people joined the first free virtual event in July. She said they were hoping to surpass that crowd number at the virtual self-care event on September 8.

"We have 200 tickets available to begin with but we can expand that if the demand is there," she said.

"People can register online through the library website. The video will also be available for those who missed out after the event."

Ms Power said the Bendigo Cares program was originally designed to run through to December, although that could be extended due to the COVID-19 restrictions.

"Ideally, we would be gathering together in the library space," she said. "Hopefully we will get a chance to do that, but for now it's online."

Ms Power said she would also be interested to hear suggestions for future Bendigo Cares discussions. Residents could submit their ideas to bendigo@ncgrl.vic.gov.au.
