Bendigo Cares started on Thursday night with a virtual conversation with former AFLW player Moana Hope.

The footballer, who used to play for the Collingwood and North Melbourne football clubs, also works as a carer for her sister.

Goldfields Library Corporation chief executive Mark Hands said about 110 people watched the conversation, which was broadcast live on the library's YouTube page.

"It was partly showing that a carer's role can be seen across a broad section of the community," he said.

"Moana is someone who has a lot of commitment to her sport and has played at a really high level. But she still wants to represent having that other part, which is being a carer to her sister.

"It was a great choice in having someone who has a really public profile but is really willing and able to talk about that caring."

Mr Hands said the library was planning to have a conversation with a different carer each month for the rest of the year.

"We really want to showcase the multitude of carers that operate in our community, particularly at a time where lots of physical distancing adds a level of difficulty for a lot of carers," Mr Hands said.

Mr Hands said the community could nominate carers they would like to hear from in the Bendigo Cares series.
