Wins to Torrid Saint and Elegant Jewel delivered not only dual success for Douglas, but also reinswoman Ellen Tormey, who is riding on the crest of a winning wave, with five victories across two nights at Bendigo this week.
Douglas, the state's leading trainer on multiple occasions, was impressed by Elegant Jewel's effort in backing-up after a win at her previous start at Bendigo earlier in the month.
"She's been one who has had her issues, but we have finally - touchwood - ironed them out and she should hold her form now for quite a bit," he said.
"She has always had the ability, it's always been a matter of putting it together at the right time.
"It was a pretty convincing win, she did do all the work in the race and then ran away from them.
"She deserved to be favourite and deserved to win, hopefully she holds her form as I said."
Douglas was pleased to score a win with Torrid Saint, a horse he said had been 'working well without putting the score on the board'.
"He hasn't been racing badly, but once again Ellen drove a superb race," he said.
"He's a horse I think can certainly run through his classes."
Torrid Saint, a four-year-old gelding, improved his record to five wins and 14 placings from 41 starts.
The double gave Douglas six winners at Bendigo since the introduction of region-based racing, placing him three ahead of nearest rival Justin Brewin.
Douglas said an undoubted highlight of Wednesday's racing was a win for champion reinsman Brian Gath on Nephew Of Sonoko in the $12,000 Aldebaran Park Trot (NR 68 to 120).
The Ross Graham-trained rising star was able to turn the tables on the heavily-backed favourite Aleppo Murphy following their one-two placings earlier in the month.
Wednesday's meeting produced winners trained from several points across the region, including Timor West (Inaugurate/Tony Berg), Toolleen (Art Finest/Lynne Mercieca), Sedgwick (Dynamic Diesel/Shane Hall), Longlea (Whata Roller/John McDermott), Sutton Grange (Nephew Of Sonoko/Ross Graham) and Marong (Hashtag/Shaun McNaulty).
