Bendigo tourists stranded in Peru now home. No word yet on those in Bolivia

Stephen Stingel was among four central Victorians who arrived in Melbourne just after 3am Friday morning.

"Overall, we're safe and well, and no-one on the flight appeared to have any COVID-19 symptoms," he said.

"Temperatures were checked at the airport and people asked if they have symptoms, but that's all as far as testing goes."

There is no word yet from Bolivia, where Bendigo-born emergency nurse Alexandra Stobaus and boyfriend Jackson Callahan have been stranded.

They were refused entry to their flight 21 days ago and have been holed up indoors, except for one weekly trip to purchase food.

Family members in Australia understand they are yet to be offered a flight out.

The Australian embassy in Bolivia is in contact with registered Australians there and is understood to be exploring options for onward journeys.

Airlines and the Australian government helped negotiate flights out of three South American cities for more than 400 people who have been trapped in South America since borders were locked down last month.

Mr Stingel and his companions were on the first two flights that had been penciled in.

All are now recovering from their flight at their quarantine hotel.

"It's certainly a nice room," Mr Stingel said.

He is yet to get in touch with his companions since arriving at the hotel but believes they are fine.

"People started arriving at the hotel from around 5:30am onward, with some only checking in after 9:30am due to the time it took to process everyone whilst maintaining distance requirements," he said.

Mr Stingel will spend the next two weeks on his own, as he was not travelling with family members.

"It's going to be a quiet 14 days. I'm one of the lucky few who have a room that receives direct sunlight," he said.
