The Y Service Club of Bendigo has taken delivery of the first of 500 Christmas trees in Mundy Street.
Now in their 65th year of the fundraising tradition, volunteers say many of those who will buy them are doing the same thing their grandparents did.
"I think there are a couple of reasons people keep coming back," club member Peter Searle said.
"They like the real Christmas trees, and their smell. People can also bring their kids and go through the process of choosing their trees and where they will be placed."
The trees will go on sale from Friday and money raised will benefit a range of groups including the YMCA, Bendigo Foodshare, Uniting, the Smith Family and local primary schools, Mr Searle said.
