AN independent advisory committee has been set up to evaluate the proposed locations for Kaufland supermarkets, among them a site in Kennington.
Bendigo is among the nine locations slated for a Kaufland supermarket, after the chain announced plans for further Victorian expansion on Thursday.
The company has proposed to build at 5 Innovation Court, Kennington, near Strath Village.
The plans will be exhibited for public comment, and subject to public hearings. This will help inform the advisory panels report to the planning minister.
A government spokesperson said the advisory committee would ensure a consistent, transparent and timely approach to Kaufland's proposed rollout across Victoria.
Each store would be assessed on its merits, with community feedback to be taken into account, the spokesperson said.
A Kaufland spokesperson said the company looked forward to providing more choice and high quality service to the Bendigo community.
The spokesperson said it was too early to confirm construction timelines, as the site was still before the advisory panel.
A SITE next to Strath Village Shopping Centre is the proposed location of a Kaufland supermarket in Bendigo.
The company has confirmed 5 Innovation Court, Kennington, is the proposed address of the supermarket.
The site looks onto Edwards Road, Kennington, sitting next to a Strath Village car park.
GERMAN supermarket giant Kaufland has announced plans to build a store in Bendigo.
Kaufland is the world's fourth largest retailer, operating 1200-1300 stores across Europe.
The company has described itself as a "one-stop" destination supermarket, saying its 4000 metre square stores will focus on fresh food.
Stores will offer a bakery and fresh hall, as well as a number of independent local businesses, such as cafes, smaller food outlets or pharmacies.
Kaufland has chosen Victoria to begin its expansion into Australia.
Kaufland announced plans to build stores at Bendigo, Braybook, Lyndhurst, Geelong, South Morang, Narre Warren, Warrnambool, Coburg and Pakenham on Thursday.
The Victorian government has referred these proposals to an independent advisory panel for consideration.
Several sites have already been approved for Kaufland stores in Melbourne.
The supermarket is currently building a distribution centre in Mickleham.
Kaufland told the Bendigo Advertiser in June it was exploring and discussing options throughout regional Victoria, but did not confirm a Bendigo site.
