Shopper frustration could soon be eased in Daylesford as the construction of a second supermarket gets a tick of approval from Hepburn Shire Council.

The plans for the re-development of the site, on the corner of 63 Central Springs Road and 30 Bridport Street, include the construction of a supermarket, associated landscaping, 30 parking spaces and bicycle parking dispensation.
It would be a $1.2 million project.
The site currently houses one dwelling and associated outbuildings that were once used for a business. It sits close to residential properties, near the Daylesford Public Swimming Pool.

Daylesford has only had one supermarket, a Coles, since the IGA closed its doors in September 2014 due to structural issues.
The owner tried to re-locate elsewhere in town but a new site was not found.
Ed Comelli, who lodged the application, told the paper last year that he had lived in Daylesford most of his life and the public wanted a second alternative.
“There have always been two supermarkets but at the moment there is only one option. The public would like a second alternative,” he said.
It is not known what kind of supermarket the site will be turned into.
The applicant has two years to move ahead with the permit.
