UPDATE, 5.45pm:
AN independent advisory committee has been set up to evaluate the proposed locations for Kaufland supermarkets, among them a site in Kennington.
Bendigo is among the nine locations slated for a Kaufland supermarket, after the chain announced plans for further Victorian expansion on Thursday.
The company has proposed to build at 5 Innovation Court, Kennington, near Strath Village.
The plans will be exhibited for public comment, and subject to public hearings. This will help inform the advisory panels report to the planning minister.
A government spokesperson said the advisory committee would ensure a consistent, transparent and timely approach to Kaufland's proposed rollout across Victoria.
Each store would be assessed on its merits, with community feedback to be taken into account, the spokesperson said.
A Kaufland spokesperson said the company looked forward to providing more choice and high quality service to the Bendigo community.
The spokesperson said it was too early to confirm construction timelines, as the site was still before the advisory panel.
