Kalamazoo Resources has ordered new detailed magnetic ground surveys and other tests in the park and a nearby pine plantation, according to a quarterly activity report.
The company could begin drill testing at 10 of the most promising sites by the end of the year, the statement said.
Tests on drill core sampling from rock in Wattle Gully are soon to be sent to labs for analysis and the company has tendered a proposed two-stage 10,000 metre drill program, the statement said.
There have been no ground geophysical surveys in the area since the 1960s.
The company has also started initial explorations near Tarnagulla, with historical data and desktop studies being collected.
Field reconnaissance is expected to start in September.
Kalamazoo announced last week it had won exploration rights in another stretch of land south of Maldon.
Castlemaine is of the richest gold fields in Victoria, having produced 5.6 million ounces from both alluvial and underground sources since mining began.
