One car came to rest against the hotel's front door in the crash's aftermath, breaking a front window.
Police are investigating the circumstances of the collision, constable Mitch Curtis said.
"It's another timely reminder to the public to take care. We've all seen how big the road toll is at the moment, compared to last year," he said.
A 95-year-old man died yesterday after his mobility scooter and a car collided in Maryborough.
He was the 153rd person to die on Victoria's roads in 2019, 55 per cent higher than at the same time last year.
The Newmarket building does not currently operate as a hotel.
It was bought in July last year by a private education group which had plans to use the site as its regional head office.
6:17pm: Traffic is again flowing on the outbound land on Charleston Road.
The black Holden sedan involved in the crash has sustained minor damage.
Earlier: A car has narrowly avoided going through the front door of the Newmarket Hotel in Bendigo.
A dark coloured sedan with P plates has hit the hotel.
Charleston Road outbound at Nolan St is closed and traffic is being diverted.
Paramedics, CFA and police are at the scene.
