Bendigo V/Line services are still falling below the network's punctuality target but have improved significantly from the same time last year according to May performance results.
A total of 87.2 per cent of services were on time during May, above average for 2019, but below V/Line's target of 92 per cent.
A V/Line spokesperson said the network would continue to work to improve its results.
Punctuality in May 2019 was more than 10 per cent higher than in May 2018. That month V/Line delivered 76.9 per cent of services on time.
Across the state 86.5 per cent of services were on time in May.
V/Line exceeded its service delivery target of 96 per cent on the Bendigo line during May. It delivered 97.8 per cent of services, slightly above the statewide average.
A V/Line spokesperson said the statewide network recorded its second best results for timeliness during 2019.
Track, train and signal faults, and delays in sections of track shared with metropolitan trains, were the main causes of delays, the spokesperson said.
"In May our third busiest line - the Bendigo line - recorded 87.2 per cent punctuality, an improvement of more than 10 per cent on the same time last year," the spokesperson said.
"While the upwards trend of these results is encouraging, they are still below our target and we will continue to work to improve our performance."
On the Swan Hill and Echuca line V/Line delivered 99 per cent of services. More than 93 per cent were on time.
Just 79.1 per cent of services were on time on the Ararat and Maryborough line. V/Line delivered 97.8 per cent of services on time on this line.
