It has now been five years since V/Line's Bendigo line met its punctuality target, despite an improvement in the proportion of on-time trains in the past month.
Public Transport Victoria's latest performance figures reveal that in April 87.7 per cent of V/Line's Bendigo line services were delivered within five minutes of on-time.
While an improvement on the previous month when 84.8 per cent of services were punctual, it still falls short of the 92 per cent target.
The last time the Bendigo line achieved this goal was in May 2015.
The closest V/Line has come to meeting its target in the past year was in September, when 89.7 per cent of services were delivered on time.
"April marked the eighth time in the last nine months punctuality on the Bendigo line has been higher than 87 per cent," a V/Line spokesperson said.
"While our punctuality result is pleasing, the result was below our 92 per cent target and we will continue to work to improve our performance on the Bendigo line."
A state government spokesperson said maintenance across V/Line's network had increased.
"We know there is more to do and that's why we're seeing more maintenance across the network than ever before and getting on with the Bendigo line upgrade," the spokesperson said.
But V/Line has met its reliability target of 96 per cent of timetabled services delivered, with 98 per cent of scheduled trains running on the Bendigo line.
Meanwhile, the Swan Hill and Echuca line last month saw 95.4 per cent of trains delivered on-time.
But the Ararat and Maryborough line's punctuality fell well short of the target, at 79.1 per cent.
Across the V/Line network as a whole, punctuality improved from 84.4 per cent in March to 86.8 per cent in April. This was higher than the 12-month average.
Reliability hit 97.8 per cent, up from 95.2 per cent.
