Three Bendigo tenpin bowlers have been chosen to compete at the 2019 Australian Adult Championships in Sydney.
Shane Mulqueen, Dylan Lefevre and Robert Howell were selected to play for Victoria in the national tournament after successful qualifying performances at Tenpin Bowling Australia's state team trials earlier in May.
Mulqueen and Lefevre will team up with players from Melbourne to compete in the restricted team challenge, while Howell will join forces with two other Victorian players for the seniors team challenge.
"All three of us have been competing for quite a while, in leagues and other events throughout the state," Mulqueen said.
The championships in Sydney are a two-week tournament and is one of the biggest events on TBA's calendar.
Players of all grades have the opportunity to compete as individuals, pairs or teams against the best players from around the country.
The trio will take advantage of every single second of practice down at the Bendigo Bowling Centre during the lead up to the championships in October.
Because Mulqueen knows all to well what it takes to be the best.
"Practice, practice and more practice," he laughed.
Mulqueen and Lefevre also practice with the juniors with the goal to share their years of knowledge of the game with the next generation of Bendigo's tenpin bowlers.
One of many of Lefevre's most recent accomplishments was winning the men's restricted crown at the Victorian State Masters in May 2018.
Mulqueen has been bowling for almost 40 years and also has several accomplishments to his name, including a 2018 Victorian Restricted Country Championship title.
It's safe to say tenpin bowling is a sport that Mulqueen truly loves.
"I live so close to the Bowling Centre so I've always had a really strong connection there," Mulqueen said.
"Tenpin bowling is challenging and something that's very fun to do. It's a sport that I enjoy and I have just stuck with it over the years."
Mulqueen is raising funds to help with the financial costs associated with playing at the national championships, please click here if you would like to assist.
