Tenpin bowlers Sally Brockley-Moon, Shae Leonard and Paul Harrington will be among hundreds of athletes competing in 11 sports in Adelaide next April at the games for people with an intellectual disability.
The trio qualified for the national games following stellar performances at state and regional level, including the Bendigo-based Games of Faith, named in honour of Bendigo’s Olympic gold medal winning swimmer Faith Leech.
Special Olympics Bendigo chair Pam Ferrari said the national games were held once every four years with spots to compete keenly sought after.
“Our tenpin bowlers are currently training weekly,” she said.
“Sally has been lucky to enough to represent Australia before and so has Shae.
“This is Paul’s first time in the state team.”
The three bowlers saw action on the weekend at a Special Olympics tournament at the Bendigo Bowling Centre on Sunday.
Nearly 70 bowlers from across Melbourne and regional Victoria competed at the Bendigo Bowling Centre.
A further three Bendigo athletes, Emily Spofforth, Tara Smith and Zachary Flint will also compete at the national games in swimming.
The 2018 Special Olympics Australia National Games will be staged from April 16-20.
