Tennis Victoria’s Andrew Reynolds will take on the role of tournament director, at an event where around 250 players are anticipated to compete.
“Bendigo will be the focal point for country tennis in January when the 63rd Inter-regional Country Championships ventures to the city,” Reynolds said.
“The event is such a unique one as it brings together male and female players of all ages to the one tournament.
“It’s such an important thing to represent a team and play for something bigger than yourself, and the players always say how much they look forward to Inter-Regionals.”
Two-time defending champions Goulburn are set to attempt a three-peat, having won in 2018 and 2019.
However, Barwon is eager to regain its crown of the court, with eight consecutive victories between 2009-2016.
Bendigo tennis stars Eliza Long and Aidan Fitzgerald have performed well at the tournament in the past and will be hitting the court again in 2019.
“My favourite thing about Inter-Regionals is getting to play with your region,” Long said.
“It’s great to be part of a team and get up and about.”
Fitzgerald said a key characteristic of the tournament was that it was open to multiple age groups.
“It’s fun and the team atmosphere is so important. The group road trip is also a feature and something to look forward to regardless of the results.”
The 63rd Inter-Regional Country Championships will take place between January 4-6 2019.
