GIVEN the start he has made it would be reasonable to assume Braydon Welsh put in a huge pre-season getting his eye in ready to wield the willow with Kingower.
The Kingower skipper has opened the Upper Loddon Cricket Association season with back-to-back centuries for the reigning premiers.
And he has done it off the back of only having one lead-up hit in the nets ahead of round one.
“I had just the one hit before the season started… that was a week before daylight savings started, so it was a bit dark,” Welsh said on Friday.
“Nick Leach was steaming in with an oldish ball, which made it a bit hard to see, but I felt alright.”
The 20-year-old cracked 115 n.o. for Kingower in a round one win over Arnold in the grand final rematch and then backed it up with 120 last week against Newbridge.
Welsh hadn’t made a century before this season.
“Usually I get the odd 50 and then just throw it away, but I’ve put my head down a bit this season,” Welsh said.
Welsh’s heroics with the bat have helped Kingower to a 2-0 start in its premiership defence.
One of the other teams that is 2-0 is Wedderburn, which Kingower plays on Saturday.
Inglewood is the only other team that has won both its games so far.
• Saturday’s games:
Bridgewater v Boort-Yando
Kingower v Wedderburn
Serpentine v Newbridge
Arnold v Inglewood
