The City of Greater Bendigo has announced stage two of its restructure plan following the consolidation of five director positions into four roles midway through last year.
The second stage of the restructure proposes merging some units, which the city says will affect some managerial positions and create other new positions into which current staff may be redeployed.
The changes were announced to staff on Thursday ahead of a three week consultation period.
During the previous shake-up, City of Greater Bendigo chief executive officer Craig Niemann ruled out job cuts, with staff in the obsolete roles redeployed to fit within the four rebranded directorates.
At the time, Mr Niemann said the structural changes came in an “environment of rate capping” that was “likely” to continue.
In a statement released on Thursday afternoon, Mr Niemann said while it was “a challenging time for the organisation”, no one had been made redundant and any changes under stage two of the reshuffle could not be confirmed until a final structure was released following the three week staff consultation period.
Mr Niemann said the city operated in a changing environment and the proposed restructure aimed to respond to this through better alignment of services and limiting duplication of effort.
“What is proposed in no way reflects what has happened in the past,” he said.
“All staff can be very proud of their achievements and their commitment to enhancing the liveability of Greater Bendigo and the wider region.”
Mr Niemann said the proposed changes were an opportunity to plan for the future and ensure the organisation could continue to best serve the community over the next 10 years.
“The city remains committed to delivering and strengthening the high quality services it provides to the community, and maintaining its important partnerships with other organisations in Greater Bendigo and across the region,” he said.
