KYNETON Tigers have appointed Ben Muir as their new senior coach for the 2017 Victorian women's football season.
The Tigers, who competed in the former Victorian Women's Football League North West Division the past two years, are entering their third season.
Muir replaces Lisa Borg, who did not seek reappointment after two seasons at the helm.
The first year coach played with Kyneton's BFNL team last season and was an assistant coach to Borg.
Muir said he was looking to the challenge of his first head-coaching appointment, in particular building the club's playing stocks.
"I'm really thrilled to be able coach the team," he said.
"(Football) is in my blood, but I'm getting older and might not be able to play in a few years, so this is a good way to step into (coaching)."
Muir, who previously played in the Riddell District Football Netball League with Woodend and Lancefield, said it was a goods time to be stepping into coaching with the popularity of women's football at an all-time high ahead of the launch of the AFL Women's League national competition.
"With the AFL Women's competition kicking off, I hope that will inspire a few more women to come ad play," he said.
"(The competition) will be great for the game, especially in generating interest in teams in local leagues ."
Muir, who has previous assistant coaching experience with Woodend, praised the tireless efforts of former coach Borg.
"She did an amazing job getting the side up and running," he said.
"I'm not sure what her plans are for the future."
The senior team will not be the only women's teams operating out of Kyneton next season.
The Tigers will field youth girls and under-12 teams in the Bendigo Junior Football League.
A come-and-try day for potential players has been organised for January 18 at Kyneton Showgrounds.
