Bendigo will officially have a new mayor from Tuesday night.
Councillor Rod Fyffe will be formally elected as mayor from 6pm at Town Hall. This follows a secret ballot held last month in which the City of Greater Bendigo nine councillors voted to endorse the former teacher and veteran local politician for a fourth stint as mayor.
Councillors Barry Lyons and Elise Chapman will present Cr Fyffe with the mayoral robes and chain and the new mayor will give a speech outlining his agenda for his 12 months in office.
Councillor Peter Cox will reflect on his twelve months as mayor and Councillor James Williams will also give a speech, thanking Cr Cox for his service.
Cr Cox chose not to put his hand up for another stint at the top job, continuing a traditional of rotating the post on an annual basis.
Cr Fyffe has been a councillor in Bendigo since 1983 and served as mayor in 2003-2004, 2004-2005 and 2010-2011.
The event is expected to last at least an hour and is open to the public.
