Cr Fyffe has been a councillor in Bendigo since 1983 and served as mayor in 2003-2004, 2004-2005 and 2010-2011.
Speaking to the Bendigo Advertiser on Tuesday, Cr Fyffe said he would look to continue the work of the council in the last year of its current term and instill more innovation to meet the challenge of impending rate caps.
“We’ve got a council that is capable, that’s delivering a lot of good projects, that’s done an outstanding job to date by delivering projects like the [Ulumbarra] Theatre, the aerodrome and the Kangaroo Flat aquatic centre,” he said.
“We need to make sure we continue to deliver capital works projects and services – and to do that in more straightened times we need to be more innovative.”
Cr Fyffe takes over from Mayor Peter Cox when he is sworn in at the Town Hall on November 10.
