A man caught with tens-of-thousands of dollars says a mate gave him the cash, and he briefly wondered if it was drug money. Fadil Bedjeti had $34,490 in cash on him when stopped by police while walking with Daniel Sacco in Wahgunyah on August 22 last year. Rutherglen officers drove past the pair and thought they looked suspicious. A search unearthed the money on Bedjeti, and Sacco allegedly had $10,340 on him and a large amount of ice. Bedjeti appeared in the Wodonga Magistrates Court on Friday, with the court told it had briefly crossed his mind that the cash could have been the proceeds of drug trafficking. IN OTHER NEWS: His lawyer, Neil Howard, said he was "wilfully blind" to his behaviour after being given the money by Sacco, but he had fleetingly considered whether it might have been ill-gotten gains. "Other than until this blight, and his arrest by Victoria Police, he has been a contributor in society," Mr Howard said. "He has been of his 37 years a decent member of society." The father-of-three had been fixing a vehicle on the side of the Hume Highway earlier in the day and travelled to meet Sacco. The court heard Sacco invited him out and asked him to conceal the cash. Sacco allegedly had more than 200 grams of methamphetamine on him when stopped on All Saints Road. Bedjeti is not facing a charge over the ice. The court heard he would be seen by a psychologist before returning to court for sentence on July 29. Magistrate Peter Dunn noted a fine of nearly $40,000 was available as a sentencing option, which he said appeared to be a good option. Sacco will face the County Court on July 19 on charges including drug trafficking and possession. Our journalists work hard to provide local, up-to-date news to the community.
