BROWN Hill stand-in captain Ryan Knowles says Shane Harwood is likely to miss the remainder of the Ballarat Cricket Association season, but not because of a rumoured dust-up at the club. Knowles said the former Australian quick had been battling injury and that was the reason he was missing from the side that took on East Ballarat at the weekend. The batting all-rounder said Harwood had been struggling with his body for much of the campaign. “He’s only been bowling the last month or two off a few steps, trying to look after himself, but it’s not getting any better,” Knowles said. “At this stage he said he is out, but is going to pretty much monitor it and see. “There’s no falling out or dust-up.” Knowles was hopeful Harwood might return to the side should the Bulls – currently fifth and nine points outside the club firsts top four – look like they could still play finals. “I’m just the temporary captain for the time being,” he said. “Hopefully (Harwood) will be right for next season.” The Courier unsuccessfully attempted to contact Harwood on Monday, but the fast bowler did say he was struggling with an ankle problem before selection on Thursday last week. Harwood is in his second season back with his home club following a first-class career that included 44 Sheffield Shield games with Victoria and four matches with Australia in the limited overs format. He took 46 wickets in the club firsts last season and has 19 so far this campaign after taking over the captaincy from Knowles’ brother Jason. Brown Hill’s woes have been amplified following news that key recruit Dan Davies will miss the next few weeks after sustaining an arm injury during his 36-run knock on Saturday. Knowles said Davies collided with the East wicket-keeper and had fractured his arm, which would likely keep him sidelined for the remainder of the two-day game against the Hawks and next round’s clash with Ballarat-Redan. tim.oconnor@fairfaxmedia.com.au
